OPP say Winchester barn fire was not suspicious

A barn fire that prompted a road closure in Winchester on Sunday was not suspicious, Ontario Provincial Police confirmed Monday.

No injuries were reported in the fire. OPP reported Main Street closed at Beach Street at 12:19 p.m. Sunday. It remained closed at 7:20 p.m., more than seven hours after the initial notice.

By then, officers had left the scene and the county was managing access to the area.

“The fire was not suspicious,” OPP Sgt. Erin Cranton said in an email Monday. “I am not sure how long the county or fire remained on scene.”

The road’s reopening time has not been confirmed.
