Death in Lombardy now being investigated as a homicide

A death initially reported as a sudden death in Lombardy in January 2024 is now being investigated as a homicide, the OPP announced Oct. 29.

Leeds County OPP officers were called to a residence on Bay Road in Rideau Lakes Township at about 1:35 p.m. Jan. 4, 2024 after someone was found dead.

Police said further investigation determined the death was a homicide. The person who died was a 71-year-old Rideau Lakes Township resident.

The investigation continues under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, working with the Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service. OPP forensic identification officers have also assisted.
