RUSSELL TOWNSHIP — Residents affected by minor-variance applications will continue to get the Township’s existing 10-day notice period after council rejected a proposal to extend it to 15 days.
The proposed change came before council at its Aug. 31 regular meeting. It would have added five days to the municipal notice period before a Committee of Adjustment hearing. Council did not approve the change, leaving the 10-day process in place.
A minor variance is the process used when a proposed project does not meet one or more requirements of the zoning by-law but may qualify for limited relief. Applications are decided by the Committee of Adjustment.
The Township’s current minor-variance information says public hearings are held at Town Hall and are open to residents who want to attend and comment. Owners within 60 metres of the subject property receive a notice of public hearing by mail.
The practical result of the Aug. 31 vote is straightforward: council did not add the proposed extra five days. The existing notice timetable continues.
