Seasonal releases of treated lagoon water can cause bubbling in the Castor River, Russell Township says, describing the process as normal and posing no danger to the public.

In a public notice on its Facebook page, the Township said treated water is discharged each spring and fall near the Russell lagoon and the Embrun boat launch. The water enters below the river’s surface, which can produce visible bubbling.

Someone posted on Facebook about seeing strange bubbling while kayaking on the Castor River between Embrun and Russell. She described the location as approximately 1.5 kilometres “above St Andre,” with a silo about 250 metres away.
